Per the First Citizens Foundation guidelines, Impressive Koncepts, Inc. is a non-profit organization recognized by the IRS as a Section 501(c)(3) organization as a public. Nearly 18% of Richland County, South Carolina youth between the ages of 10-17 are obese, and another 18% are overweight.' According to Prisma Health in 2019, overweight and obesity is listed as the top health concern for many counties in South Carolina, with Richland County being a high-priority focus.” Between 15%-17% of South Carolina high school students have experienced suicidal thoughts at least once.? Both sedentary lifestyles and mental health issues have increased for youth due to COVID-19.*
The proposed Munch and Move program is designed to address the needs of youth to participate in physical activity and partake of a nutritional diet despite the barriers of poverty, low parent availability, COVID-19 quarantine, or lack of geographical area opportunity.
Specifically, Munch and Move aims to help youth build healthy exercise and nutrition habits through the education to invent opportunities for physical activity within the home or wherever they may be, to creatively meet nutritional needs with limited resources, and to recognize the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of both regular physical activity and balanced nutritional intake. This will be done in a virtual group environment for social learning and support as a way to increase confidence, peer support, and self-motivation.
The Munch and Move program will be aligned with the purpose of First Citizens Foundation (FCF) to “provide social, educational, and/or health services for low-to-moderate income individuals” and meets the FCF’s areas of interest including youth, education, community development, and health. While Impressive Koncepts Foundation services the wider South Carolina area, Munch and Move will focus on Richland School District 2, Columbia, South Carolina as the building foundation for the program.
